While scrolling through YouTube Shorts, I stumbled across a video of a cat adorably bouncing around. As cute as the cat was, it was the background that really grabbed my attention. The lighting and shadows were so striking that I took a screenshot to use as a practice reference. I focused on studying the colors used in both the shaded and illuminated areas. The grass was definitely the most challenging part—it's easy to get caught up in adding unnecessary detail instead of concentrating on how the contrast between light and shadow gives the painting depth.
I debated whether to include the cat but ultimately decided to focus on the environment. I’m happy with how it turned out and feel like I learned a lot from the process. I’m thinking of making this a regular exercise!
