Opinions please! Cintiq vs Yiynova
TLDR: Do the black lines look worse than the blue? Do the green lines look as good as the purple? (I may have confirmation bias so I would like your help please.)
LBRA:
Yiynova have gotten back to me about the jitter on the screen I returned...
Their email suggests they can't see a difference - but I can. I've zoomed and enhanced their test lines on the right side of this image, and it's pretty obvious that the blue is much wobblier than the green.
On the other hand, while their test does show some jitter on the old unit... I feel like I got more than they did.
Not sure what to do... Yiynova have offered to refund or replace, whichever I ask for. There isn't another product in this size class that I want, but I'm worried that there's something that amps up the problem for me, and the new unit might also be too jittery to use :/
Thoughts?
Blue; old unit, drawn by Yiynova
Black; old unit, drawn by me
Green; new unit, drawn by Yiynova
Purple; cintiq, drawn by me
Red; straight-line tool for comparison

hmm, I would assume that there must be a difference in usage then.
I mean if both parties tested with the same hardware then the user must be in part the reason for the difference in effect.
I have no clue what exactly it could be but maybe you should send them an image of your hand drawing position. Maybe they can tell you that "you are doing it wrong" ( ;) ) and how you are "supposed" to use the tablet ...
Maybe the sensors are triggered/confused by too much pressure. Like for instance from the weight of you hand on it, or something in that direction ?

They can't reasonably expect artists to adapt to using a tablet in a specific way... people hold their stylus in whatever way is comfortable, and the hardware has got to handle it. It's also not touch sensitive, so hands don't come into it...
Frankly I suspect that a) I got a duff unit, and b) it's not capable of perfect pen tracking. Even their new/green lines are wonky here and there.

Black definitely looks worse than blue. Green looks better than both, but none are as good as purple (except the straight-line tool, obviously).
Maybe ask them why they're getting much better results than you were? After all, if there's some deeply-buried settings they're changing, maybe they should advertise them a bit more.

They've already suggested a software fix (that did nothing)... I doubt they have any magic up their sleeves :/ I'm sort of forced to suspect the digitiser just isn't as accurate as the cintiq's, meaning I'll just have to get a refund and wait for however many months/years it takes wacom to be bothered making a new product... :(
In blue vs black? It's an iffy judgement tbh, they used a totally different brush width to the samples I sent them, which hasn't made it any easier because I don't know how much zoom to apply :/ To my eye, green is clearly better than blue or black, but purple (the cintiq) is better than green.
The fear is that if they couldn't reproduce the problem as severely as I had it, then their comparison unit might seem ok for them, then be bad for me. Don't have any explanations for the difference... meaning I can't fix it if it turns out to be the case.
Alas, I think I'm just going to ask them for a refund. This makes me sad, because there isn't a comparable product that I want... Wacom's 22 is twice the price, 3x the weight and runs hot, and all the competitors have terrible drivers and support. Going to have to stick with my little cintiq 13 for now. Perfect pen tracking, I just really wanted something bigger this year :(
