@M1kasaYu1 If you read solo leveling you will understand why its not popular in japan. by next season when they cover jeju arc it is where the theme get sensitive as the series turn very nationalistic by making japanese characters as enemies and weak. a-1 might be changing a lot of stuff in season 3 guaranteed to avoid being targeted.
@Gilgamesh-71 nah the Japanese S-Ranks are portrayed as stronger than their Korean counterparts.

Great first episode, especially the Igris scene. I'm so glad A-1 is the studio adapting SL, the show is in good hands.

Promising start, can't wait for the next episode

Its a start. Nothing really flashy and memorable about this episode. So from now on I do believe that, new episodes will get better and better.

Regarding this episode overall it put stage for future biger fight and thats good. All things before arrival in gate are meanigless more or less. But as said, its frist episode which should mainly focus on showing potentional future plots, which this episode is suscesfull.

I'm so tired of Lisa the opening is whatever but the ending was amazing. Incredible first episode I'm so excited to see more this season. I usually hate isekai but this anime is on another level. The music within the episodes was very well done and the animation was just as great as season 1

I dislike Solo Leveling's material far more than Tower of God's but in terms of adaptation levels, this episode alone looked a million times better than all of Tower of God season 2 in all aspects. Season 1 was very popular and it is an Aniplex, A-1 Pictures show so it's not a surprise but just watching this after finishing the other show from the previous season really shows a stark difference there. There's more mindless action, more Sawano songs which sound the exact same as thousands made before, and Jin-woo's bland personality becoming more and more OP in the process in a different setting. It's more Solo Leveling and it's confident about what it is, whether people are able to really enjoy this or not.

Don’t yall think the episode was too fast paced. To me it felt rushed.

Also the last time we saw Igris was when Jinwoo finished fighting him so y does it skip over to a new fight.

There’s no background filler story and each scene felt very short and brief

I know how it feels. However I do hope the GOAT of manhwa ORV gets an adaptation like Solo leveling.

Still try and enjoy this for what it is, it’s entering its best parts this season.

Animation wasn't bad but there are some parts of the story that aren't completely cannon which is not that part the made me upset. What made me upset is the pacing. For me at least it was way too fast and I do understand that there are constraints like budget and also them not wanting to do a 24 episode season but still pacing matters.

Actually that’s how pacing of manhwa was. The pacing here was actually great even, started slow then ramped up when they went into a gate which makes perfect sense.

Wtf is "Come out?" Whatever happened to good ol' 'Arise'? Or even 'Erect'? Still, the scenes looked dope as hell though, especially considering the drip. Makes what happened to ToG feel all the more bad to me.

Also, I just can't look at Jinah the same way after all those Sister Leveling dubs.

I guess that’s true with pacing increase when they enter the gate, I haven’t watch many anime’s that source from Manhwa’s as there aren’t many good adaptation so I didn’t know that this is common. Kinda disappointed but it’s alright.

there were lot's of fillers this episode, and very little info was given, apart from the portal and the arrival of the antagonist, and the boss of the portal. It's a bit of a disappointing start and too many questions that could've been answered but they just put fillers. 3/5

Frankly, I expected the S rank to bust through the Red Gate in order to get his revenge, in so doing establishing his strength for us as the audience. I guess the red gate rule really is unbreakable. I guess he'll just have to wait.

Resource management is gonna be a thing for Jinwoo if he's going to play Shadow Monarch class. If the low level summons cost more mana than they're worth and don't accomplish much before dying except to drain his mana (and it seems like they do, which will probably get even worse if he faces stronger enemies later), he shouldn't waste effort bringing them, even if it feels cool to have an army. Just bring the hero minion (and maybe get some more hero minions).

Peak is back! I was hoping for a 2-episode special...a little disappointed for getting my hopes up, but just having this back has already got the ball rolling.

Although I only wasn't really a big fan of the OP song featuring Felix of Stray Kids...it just sounds too...different? I don't know, it just sounds too deep. Not sure how to express it, but I rather have it all LiSA or another vocalist that's more in-line with matches those deep tones.

Going to miss Krage singing the ED theme, but a new season means new songs.

I was worried that this would start slowly with a long unnecessary recap or something. But thankfully this is already firing on all cylinders, because that was a great first episode. Seeing the soldiers and Ignis in action for the first time under Jin was awesome to see. Knowing that Ignis is likely still stronger than Jin is interesting, but at least he has someone as strong as he is as a backup if he needs it.

The only negative is the fact I have to wait a week for the next episode.

Oh no in anime Igris isn't carrying that bear head and walking to SJW with visible blood trail, the only nitpick I have so far x)
I don't know why but I thought the pacing in anime would be slower [It is hard to convey Manhwa to Anime pacing] but with that episode I am not surprised of trailers and opening showing the Kargalgan and Demon Castle, I guess they'll try speed up for Jeju since they do that from last season, I wish Beru gonna be in this season.

So next episode will Iron and Baruka [don't look those up as you might get spoilered].

@nvxiis They were portrayed like that cause of sparrings, but Jeju island and later Japan Crisis made a different view, not surprised of hearing that SL ain't popular in Japan. [I guess in Canada it should have been worse, those whom read up to the finale knows what I mean]

I love how Solo Leveling Abridged prophesied the first five minutes of the episode.

A-Rank asshole at least wasn't your typical moustache twirling caricature of an antagonist. Based on the limited information he had, he made the right call to try and get the low-ranked people to stay out of the thick of the fighting (and likely obstruct/weigh down the rest of them) instead of all going together to try and find the dungeon boss. He was utterly wrong, in hindsight, but if Sung turned out to truly be an E-rank, it would have changed nothing.

Betting the murder pixies let him go to run to the rest of the party, since their scouts knew there were more people in the dungeon.

Masterpiece of a first episode. That song with the Igris fight, the opening, THE ENDING, how badass Himwoo was throughout the whole episode, didn't expect that VA for Hwang, which is one of my favorites, and the fact that we're already talking about Jeju's ants. Can't wait for the upcoming episodes!

As always, solo being amazing
The animation is good, the anime itself is not too slow and gets straight to the point, which can sometimes be a bad thing, but I can't say, for now doing this is the best option (in my opinion) so that you can go faster things are unnecessary, but when it's an arc that really needs time, then fitting in with the time is the best option (Not rushing so fast in a specific arc in this case)
That's all, perfect start of the anime

@Paulternative Agree/disagree.

He tells the low level group they should "stay alive...we can all go home," but there are statements during the episode that make clear the low-level group was knowingly left to die. Does that make A-Rank an asshole? Maybe. If so, it's not a cruel-asshole like some other episodes, but rather a practical-asshole, the type that the life and death struggle in the dungeons likely inspires in order to survive.

They sped up everything and it felt very rushed, also I don't understand why they always continue to cut parts that although insignificant give much more breath to the narration, when in the 1st season they had invented filler after filler to slow everything down. Bah not even the animation is that amazing I expected better from the 1st episode, the manhwa remains better nothing to do

I know everyone has already gushed over it but, as a manga reader (I'm not one,) that Igris fight must have been so awesome. Just the sound of him walking through the snow in that full plate mail to kill the bear. Then, it's basically just one attack, *incapacitated*, and then he's actually so damn confident that he just casually walks around her before coming back with the stare. That animation just sold "impending doom" like practically no other.

@Paulternative Yeah, maybe. To me it felt like they were lied to to prevent them from trying to follow. Who knows.

One thing this show/world does is have a LOT of pick-up-groups, which is weird given the dungeon focus, but helps support the very grim tone of the show. The prevalence of PUGs means these groups don't have real attachments to each other, which pretty understandably leads to them sacrificing/betraying each other whenever anything goes wrong and explains why we keep seeing party wipes or near wipes. It's a pretty dark world.

Bruh I recently read the manhwa again… Nothing was changed in dialogue. There are different scenes for the better like the A rank hunter losing to some no bodies other than the elves themselves, and Igris carrying the head. They also added that Sung Jin woo defeated multiple bears barehanded compared to manhwa him defeating only one.

They did remove him going to the bank to get money for the teacher meeting, which adds nothing lol

And I watched the second episode in cinema, they didn’t change anything from manhwa or remove details. So the pacing is on par to the manhwa right now.

@Leon888 To me it doesn't seem like Solo Leveling suffers from the "bad adaption syndrome" like God of Highschool, Noblesse, Tower of God etc. Sure they skipped some dialogues and scenes, or rearranged them, but it's a really well made adaption so far. Plus the animation, music, art style, voice acting, sound design is all on point. The pacing feels good as well.

@ManoCustaff You mean bear meat in general? There's nothing wrong with that, I've had it. You just have to cook it through, and to be honest, even if you don't, the chances of actually catching trichinosis are pretty damn low.
