People get upset when people don't use the word "God" when it didn't even always exist. Secondly, the true doctrine, that religion was adopted from, makes no differentiation between the Universe and "God". If "God" is everywhere, then [it] (because declaring a gender would void infinity and formlessness) isn't separate from the Universe since the universe is infinite. It was called the Cosmos way before the term "God" came about.

I remember that India Arie was on that mix tape & I haven’t heard it in a long long time but her song was so good that I remember her w/out being able to remember the actual song I remember that I LOVED that song I heard, it was a feel good song but my parents had both MTV/VH1 blocked & I couldn’t hear the name of the artists being mentioned. I wish I could remember more but certain health issues have left me with a terrible memory along with some other frightening thoughts that have made me miss how the song soothed me during a rough time in my life. I just had to stop & see what was going on, it’s really sad cause I’ve never remembered the name of an artist without being able to name the song/s that I like so for me to remember really says a lot about how awesomely wonderful her song was for me to remember her name after all these years! ❤🎶♥️

When I saw that video, I was appalled! My parents trusted their daughter to the messages Essence once laid at my feet. If i had been present at that concert, I would have gathered myself and mine up and left...and demanded my money back. These young people don't understand that whatever enterprise is behind the brand today isn't interested in the uplifting of our people. They're literally selling their bodies on the auction block. When our ancestors went through that, it was traumatic and the shame was a generational curse. Now, do we willingly give ourselves away in that manner? WAKE THE H🔥LL UP!!! 😡

That's exactly why I stopped watching BET many years ago back in the 90s. Things started going in a very different direction literally overnight. When my toddler (back then) started trying to dance in a provocative manner like the girls in those music videos, I turned the TV off with the quickness, took her outside to play & quickly create a positive memory to associate with that day, and prayed she wouldn't have that stain in her spirit. She's now a lovely 29 years blessed young lady, who is respectful of herself and others. I appreciate and agree with your comment, Queen. Btw, my parents used to reward my sister & I with an Essence magazine for small accomplishments like doing well in school, showing initiative to do more around the house, helping our elderly neighbors with random things, etc.
Essence magazine of yesteryear was a reward, provided a great sense of community & pride (healthy, non-toxic), and was progressive towards an overall healthier black household. And now... well, you've already said it perfectly. Thank you so much for your input. May excellent health, peace, love, joy, protection, favor, and blessings always be your portion. Take care, Queen. 👸🏽💕👸🏽

There is no "ourselves". Let that dream go. Just like White people are divided along left and right lines, Black people are also divided. The problem is that the two groups of Blacks are not allowed by "black leaders" and politicians to distinguish themselves from each other.

There is nothing India Arie could say or do for me to want to cancel her. AINT NO WAY. She is a Queen, a class act, a compassionate soul, a loving supporter, a self confidence teacher, a musical life coach, a melodic big sister, an acoustic heart healer.... NEVER will she ever be canceled by anyone who knows her and her music. I listened to her all throughout my teen years, young adult years and still to this day. She has taught me more about how to love myself, accept myself, and embrace my soul and all my pros and cons, than any other source in my life, other than my own mother and sister. She's a legend, and nothing can change that. She's absolutely right, there is a time and a place for everything and you will never catch her being unsupportive of other artists, especially black women. We love you, India

I feel you about that. My entire life, I've trained hard in ballet, and worked with some of the greatest TAP DANCERS in the world. These are representative of an old European dance style black and brown people were excluded from.
And an art in tap that's been made our own.
I have stayed away from recording artists when I was younger, because the direction that a lot of it IS going into a CONTEXT in which the dancing is seductive, and essentially making all women look like oversexualized people.
It's hard to reconcile that with young girls.
I watched an awards show BET Awards, my roommate is a hip hop dancer who has worked with every famous artist. But at one point, the artist she backed up, actually DID simulate a sex act for four seconds.
      I was SO turned off.
And the point here is, who would you trust your kids to imitate if they want to dance?
My friends, neighbors and family, could ALWAYS bring their kids to see me in their shows.

The older I get the more it's proven you all don't give a damn about blackness anyway.
If you did you would eliminate the n1&&@ from the equation.
That's the ONLY answer and until you all stop pretending that's debatable the culture continues to lose.
Stop blaming others for taking advantage of an obvious weakness. No other culture gets to elevate their bottom class members so wtf you think that's an option for us?
      Plus
They made up the concept of black anyway when they made up whiteness.
Our ancestors were not calling it's people black.

There is saying that goes it is the "DONKEYS who are now riding the KINGS". The truth of the matter is the "Money Kings" are using certain rancid behaviours to make "MONEY" for the wider society to get there "Rocks off". I remember many many years ago Reggae DJ star singing about how the MONEY MEN were making room to allow BLACK WOMEN to make BIG MONEY by tuning them into PORN Images. Yes, it is Men that still controls the music industry and they have made room for this behaviour to become a MONEY MAKER. I agree that Essence has become totally compromised.

Let people know that they can't bring Pookie and nem or they will get kicked out or fined for certain activities i.e. loud music, cars in certain places, loitering instead of minding their own businesses, etc. Criminals i.e. thieves, murderers, people who incite fights, etc, we expeditiously turn over to the cops and literally throw them under the bus for bringing chaos and crime into our communities. I think we need to establish a board of counselors to deal with different types of disputes that in the hood escalate to violence without mediation. We CAN do it as I've lived in middle class mostly black communities that were like this on a certain level, but it was unspoken. We could even create home school communities using some of these burnt out teachers that got into education to give back. It's not hopeless; we just need to publicly separate from the toxic folks that are ruining everything we try to do.
